Governors

Introducing the Governing Body, their Roles and Responsibilities

Roles and responsibilities

The Governing Body has a responsibility to see that the School is effectively managed and is meeting the needs of its pupils, the expectations of parents and guardians and the interests of the community. Some of our duties are laid down by statute and others are defined by agreement at our Governor meetings.

In practice much of our time is focused in four main areas:

1. The school budget and funding of the School
2. Staffing
3. The conduct and curriculum of the School
4. The use of School facilities

Each Governor assumes responsibility for various aspects of school running. This varies from specific topics within the curriculum to areas such as building maintenance. As well as this each Governor has a duty to visit the School and see it in action. These visits will have been planned and will be focused on relevant areas of responsibility.

Governor Training
The LEA has a full training programme for Governors which we all take part in.
Participation by the governors in the Local Cluster Groups has helped with Governor development and with communication between the local Schools.
